Lou Orr, Board President
Lou has been involved in the child development community for many years, spanning many organizations and affiliations. He currently serves as a Regional Sales Manager at Lakeshore Learning Materials.
Lou is an active member of the local and national child development communities. He holds memberships with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and other affiliations such as the California Association for the Education of Young Children (CAEYC) and the East Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, Beach Cities, North Bay and Metro AEYC associations. In addition, he is also a member of the California Child Development Administrators Association and serves on the boards of the South Central Training & Research Consortium and the Shields for Families project.
Lou's involvement in the community has earned him many awards from members of Congress, the State Assembly, the State Senate, and from the Los Angeles City Mayor's office. Lou has also been recognized for his work by other surrounding City Councils.
Lou is an avid nature photographer and can be regularly spotted at the Whittier Narrows Nature Center in search of the perfect shot.
Janis Holody, Secretary
Janis currently holds a position in the administrative division of the Women's and Children's Hospital of the LAC+USC Medical Center. She is a long-time member of the LAC+USC Medical Center's family.
Janis' activism with the CDCLA began in 1988 when her children enrolled in the child care program. Since this time, she has been active in CDCLA fundraisers and events.
Janis dedicates a lot of time to her family and is also involved in various community-based volunteer events and projects. She is active with the La Salle High School Arts Booster Club and the Los Angeles Music Center Active Arts organization.
Casey Sakamoto, Treasurer
Casey has built a strong career in the area of strategic and financial planning. He operates his own financial planning and accounting firm, Clarity AFS, LLC. Casey has over 20 years experience in the accounting, finance and strategic planning field. Prior to founding Clarity AFS, he held positions at Ernst & Young, Duff & Phelps, and Deloitte & Touche.
Casey is a graduate of the Anderson School of Management at UCLA. He is a member of the Los Angeles Society of Financial Analysts, the Association of Investment Management & Research, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Casey's passion lies in giving back to his community. He feels particularly strong about the issues of affordable child care and public school education. He is an active participant of his son's fundraising and social activities at school.
Mary Norman
Mary's expertise lies in academia as an instructor and counselor in local community colleges. As an East L.A. college instructor, Mary provides valuable insight into the field of child development and community-college education. She is active in establishing mentor-teacher networks and is always in pursuit of helping teachers develop professional skills. In addition, Mary coordinates two specially funded programs that provide assistance to Child Development students.
Mary has been a long-time member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) as well as its Southern California counterpart, SCAEYC. Mary is also a member of the National Black Child Development Institute and has served on the East Los Angeles College Affirmative Action Committee.
When she is not involved in child care advocacy, Mary dedicates her time to gardening, reading and music.
